I love whiling away the hours on YouTube watching food and recipe vloggers. Here’s a few of my vegan YouTube faves.
Lauren Toyota used to be a TV presenter for MuchMusic which was a music channel in Toronto, Ontario. Having lived here for a while I was drawn to this part of the story but Lauren has a lot more to offer now on her vegan comfort food channel – Hot For Food. She’s a natural in front of the camera and is instantly likable. Her channel focuses on vegan comfort and junk food with more than a touch of class when called for – think tofu double down with butterbean mash and kale or vegan mocha chocolate bars. She tries to demystify vegan cooking and provides a variety of plant based replacements for comfort food staples like nacho sauce and mac and cheese. If you like Hot For Food you might also enjoy her personal channel where she does ‘what I ate in a days”, and covers topics like travel, meditation and lifestyle.
Her cookbook is also due for release early next year and I definitely already have it on pre-order 🙂
Not completely a vegan channel but, Mayim Bialik (aka Amy from Big Bang theory and TV’s Blossom) is an outspoken vegan and her channel covers many subjects including veganism, feminism, parenting and religion.
She’s a thoughtful, opinionated and poetic speaker and her channel is both fun and thought-provoking.
A reaction to many of the more ‘radical’ vegans online, Unnatural Vegan is a science based channel that uses research and peer-reviewed literature to discuss vegan and world issues. Each video is carefully structured with links to latest research included. I enjoy the balanced arguments and trustworthy source of information. Videos include discussions about “is tofu safe?” as well as response videos to many of the more radical and restrictive diets – raw vegans etc. Videos focus on nutrition and supplementation as part of a workable, healthy vegan lifestyle.
There’s a great playlist on vegan pregnancy and parenting to check out.
Gaz Oakley’s channel is similar to Hot For Food in that he’s recreating comfort food classics with vegan ingredients. think fish and chips, Kentucky fried chicken and steak and chips.
A lot of his videos are also gluten free and oil free, plus there’s a ton of stunning puddings and desserts. The real draw to this channel for me though is just how beautiful everything looks *drool*
